Tiramisu
The origin of the tiramisu cake is largely unknown. There is even debate on whether the cake was invented recently or many years ago. Some claim that the Italian tiramisu is actually a modified version of Zuppa Inglese, another dessert made of layers. The Zuppa Inglese is very similar to the trifle cake, a dessert from England. Others say tiramisu was invented recently in the 1970s or 1980s. There is a theory that the cake was invented in Treviso by a woman named Francesca Valori. It is believed that the cake got its unique name from her maiden name, Tiramisu. Some other sources claim tiramisu was first concocted near Venice by a man named Via Sottotreviso.
Tiramisu cake ingredients include savoiardi (ladyfinger) biscuits, mascarpone, eggs, and cocoa. As a matter of fact, with the minimum ingredients, it is easy to make tiramisu desserts. The tiramisu cake is very creamy with a lot of mascarpone cheese and egg yolks. Often, wine or dark rum are added for a strong taste. Many cooks have their own tiramisu recipes. For example, some cooks replace the savoiardi biscuits with panettone bread. Also, some people do not put eggs in the tiramisu cake at all. Generally, tiramisu recipes are open to improvisation, enabling a chef to add white chocolate, ice cream, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries to the recipe.
