- 16 oz.(454g.) Italian sausage, removed from casings
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 (28 oz. or 800g.) can diced tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste

Cook the sausage in butter in a large sauté pan over medium heat for 5 minutes until the sausage begins to brown. Remove the sausage from the sauté pan.

Add garlic and onions to the fat that remains in the pan and, while stirring, cook over medium heat for 3 minutes until they become soft. Add basil, cooked sausage, and the tomatoes with juice. Cook for 25 minutes, while stirring, until the mixture becomes thick. Remove the mixture from the heat, and season to taste.
